Hello
Welcome to my business site and thank you for taking the time to look through the work I have been blessed to work on. My name is Nathan Deal and I am the owner/artisan of Fabri Filius. I run a one-man shop usually from design work and project construction, to the project's installation. For most projects, I contract out the finishing work to be completed by someone with far more expertise than myself.

My Story
The inspiration for my craft began long before I started my business. I first began to seriously pursue woodworking in 2011 when I entered Moore-Norman Vocational School which offered a carpentry program. Through their program, I was trained in lead carpentry (framing houses) and cabinet building. It was in the cabinet building that I found a way to express my artistic side of me and after graduating from the program in 2012, I sought to build a business focusing on custom-made cabinets. In 2013 I felt a calling from God that I should share His message of Love with the ministry organization Fellowship of Catholic University Students (FOCUS) and for 3 years I served my mission at Stephen F. Austin University in Nacogdoches, TX. After serving 3 years as a missionary, I left with my heart on fire to return to woodworking but with a new purpose. As my love and understanding of the Catholic faith grew, my mission in life and purpose for woodworking shifted.
Through the artistic gifts that God has given to me and my love for my Catholic faith, I began my business in 2016 under the name Against the Grains Art and in 2020, through the consecration to St. Joseph, I rebranded my company to Fabri Filius which is Latin for Son of the Carpenter. It is now my desire to participate in the new movement to restore Catholic beauty into the culture and our parishes through the use of custom liturgical furniture and hand-carved artwork.
